At Shvuat ha-Adamah/Earth’s Promise we are committed to the long-term sustainability of Israel’s environment and its people. With more than 90% of the population currently living in urban areas, cities not only use more resources and produce more pollution than any other category of land use, but also represent the pulse of the nation – the cultural will of the people.
Nowhere is this more important than in Beer Sheva, “The Capital of the Negev”. At more than 60% of the country’s land mass, the Negev is Israel’s future, and as its capital, Beer Sheva is its barometer. We at Shvuat ha-Adamah/Earth’s Promise understand that, and as such we work with individuals and communities in and around the city to create and adapt locally sustainable solutions to everyday environmental and communal challenges.
By developing grassroots models of sustainability that address real life challenges such as waste disposal, transportation, energy use, food production, and water conservation in Israel’s most strategically important region, we work to build the foundation for the country’s safe and sustainable future.
